Buenos días 🙂 ¿Qué tal el fin de semana? Espero que hayáis pasado estos días de tanto calor en la mejor compañía posible. Por aquí ha sido literalmente horroroso con noches de hasta 33 grados. Pero bueno, tengo por delante todavía unos días de tranquilidad que pienso aprovechar mientras, os comparto mis últimas lecturas. Turno de Rebelión en la granja de George Orwell.
Esta sátira de la Revolución rusa y el triunfo del estalinismo, escrita en 1945, se ha convertido por derecho propio en un hito de la cultura contemporánea y en uno de los libros más mordaces de todos los tiempos. Ante el auge de los animales de la Granja Solariega, pronto detectamos las semillas de totalitarismo en una organización aparentemente ideal; y en nuestros líderes más carismáticos, la sombra de los opresores más crueles. Un rotundo alegato a favor de la libertad y en contra del totalitarismo que se ha convertido en un clásico de la literatura del siglo XX.
Tenía este libro entre mis eternos pendientes. Y la verdad es que no lo entiendo porque 1984 del mismo autor, es uno de mis libros top. Por fin, he sacado un ratito para leer este libro tan alucinante y tan brillante como es Rebelión en la granja.
La historia comienza en una granja, donde los animales, cansados de la explotación del granjero Jones, se rebelan bajo el liderazgo de los cerdos Snowball y Napoleón. Inspirados por el idealismo de Viejo Mayor, un cerdo anciano que soñaba con una utopía donde los animales viven libres de la tiranía humana, logran expulsar a Jones y toman el control de la granja. Al principio, la granja va próspera bajo la gestión de los cerdos y con siete mandamientos que todos los animales repiten de forma crónica.
Todo lo que camina sobre dos pies es un enemigo.
Todo lo que camina sobre cuatro patas, nade, o tenga alas, es amigo.
Ningún animal usará ropa.
Ningún animal dormirá en una cama.
Ningún animal beberá alcohol.
Ningún animal matará a otro animal.
Todos los animales son iguales.
Esto y los principios del Animalismo, una clara referencia al comunismo, prometen igualdad y justicia. Sin embargo, pronto surgen las luchas de poder entre Snowball y Napoleón. Napoleón, usando tácticas despiadadas y manipuladoras, y, por supuesto, saltándose sus propias normas.
Y ya no os cuento más porque la verdad es que no necesitáis saber nada más para no hacer como yo y leer ya esta novela. La verdad es que leer el libro teniendo conocimiento del contexto, de lo que trata y de que es una crítica brutal al socialismo.
George Orwell (Motihari, India, 1903 – Londres, 1950), cuyo nombre real era Eric Blair, fue novelista, ensayista brillante y maestro de periodistas. Podría decirse que su breve vida resume los sueños y las pesadillas del mundo occidental en el siglo XX. Nació en la India británica en el seno de una familia de clase media, estudió con una beca en el exclusivo colegio de Eton, sirvió en la Policía Imperial, volvió a Europa, donde vivió a salto de mata, regresó a la Inglaterra rural y empezó allí el ejercicio de la docencia, escribió sobre la clase obrera inglesa y la explotación, recogió su experiencia de lucha contra el fascismo en la turbulenta Guerra Civil española y vislumbró en la convalecencia posterior el derrumbe del viejo mundo. Además, colaboró con la BBC durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial, se consagró en el Tribune y el Observer como uno de los mejores prosistas en lengua inglesa, fabuló las perversiones del socialismo con Rebelión en la granja (1945) y llegó a anticipar nuevos tipos de sociedad burocrática e hiperpolítica con 1984 (1949). A pesar de su temprana muerte, se le sigue considerando la conciencia de una generación y una de las voces más lúcidas que se han alzado contra toda clase de totalitarismos.
En definitiva, aunque tenía pocas dudas de que me iba a gustar este libro ya sí que puedo decir, con conocimiento de causa, que Rebelión en la granja de George Orwell es un librazo con todas las letras. En el prólogo se cuenta un poco más del momento de publicación y de la censura que sufrió el libro, y me parece muy interesante para poner un poco en contexto al lector y que el libro te parezca brillante desde la primera página.
Rebelión en la granja de George Orwell se ha convertido en uno de mis libros favoritos.
